The Advantages of Custom Fitting

Technology in golf equipment is regulated by the rules established by the USGA. If equipment designers take advantage of these rules by maximizing their designs, there is little to no distinct difference (advantage) between their clubs and anyone else’s. Most equipment manufacturers have done this over the past few years. As new designs emerge, you see that everyone is pushing the limit of MOI, COR, and volume. The differences from company to company now are typically cosmetic in nature. Appearance does play a role, since the game of golf does require confidence. The look of the club can inspire confidence in us all as we address the ball. However, the Rules of Golf determine grooves, finish and materials application……….the technology.

The break through still available to us all is custom fitting. You may have read recently in various golf magazines about the benefits of custom fitting. Most tour players have benefited from this for some time. Contrary to popular belief, tour players do not play the same clubs as you and I. Their equipment is built to their needs by the manufacturer. Shafts, loft and lie are all adjusted to maximize the performance of the club for them. These adjustments are predicated on two distinct factors: static measurements and dynamic measurements. Let’s examine both of them.

Static Factors: These measurements take your physical characteristics in to consideration. Generally, height, posture, arm length, glove size and wrist to floor measurements constitute this aspect of fitting. Static fitting is a good start, but only a portion of the solution.

Dynamic Factors: These measurements are taken using sophisticated launch monitor equipment that can measure, club head speed, ball speed, launch angle, swing path and side spin. In other words, these measurements are a mathematical equation of your swing.

Taken together, these factors constitute your physical measurements and your swing in motion. This then is your capability to execute the golf shot. Building clubs (Fitting) to these characteristics maximizes the performance of the golf club for your unique capability. This gives you every advantage possible in the execution of your shot.

At Magique Golf, we have been pushing the forefront of custom fitting for a number of years. We are the leader in this area. We have developed a proprietary system for fitting, Intelli-Fit. This comprehensive system incorporates both static and dynamic factors to generate fitting specifications for you. It is the most complete fitting available in the industry today. Selection of the correct shaft, lie angle and grip size are critical to the performance of that club in your hands. A shaft that is too stiff for your club head speed will generate off line shots and compromise distance. A kick point that is to high, will launch the ball lower and sacrifice distance. A grip that is too large will cause an open face at impact and push the ball off line. All of these factors and more can be adjusted during the fitting process to ensure the best possible performance of the club for you.
