Putt Better This Year! Posted on 04.24.2008

Golfers use the putter to make 43% of their strokes on average. Higher handicap players putt an even higher percentage of their shots. The setup mechanics of putting are extremely influential in how well we putt. The specifications of your putter need to allow you to adopt a proper setup position. Given the posture that you have adopted to putt with, there is a specific distance from the ball that you need to stand in order to position your eyes vertically above your target line. This is crucial in order to aim your putter consistently. Once you are the proper distance from the ball, your hands should be positioned directly vertically beneath your shoulders. This will allow your arms to hang freely and swing in a straight line. In this proper setup position, there is one length and lie angle for your putter to fit you properly. Fit your putter to a proper setup position; don’t adjust your setup position to fit your putter. You hit almost half of your shots with the putter. Make sure it helps you!

Do you push, pull, slice or hook? Your grips could be the cause. Posted on 04.24.2008

The grip is the only point of contact between the club and the golfer. There is a direct correlation between the hands and the face of the golf club. Grip size influences your ability to properly release the golf club, which has a strong influence on your accuracy. While many players express that they are more comfortable with a larger grip, the fact is that most of them predominantly push or slice. Grips that are too large will typically slow down the release of the club, resulting in a push or a slice. If your miss is hooking, you might want to try a larger grip. Properly fit grips can make it much easier to swing the club rhythmically and without compensation.
